CCDA is an association of Christians who partner with God and others to bring shalom to our neighborhoods. We love being good neighbors and providing tools, resources, and opportunities to do so.
September 28th is National Good Neighbor Day, and we invite you to celebrate this holiday! Do something for your neighborhood and serve your neighbors in some way.
Here are a few simple ideas for ways to engage this Good Neighbor Day and every day!
1. Be Present and Proximate
“Ultimately, good neighboring is proximity.” – Joe Tucker
It’s so simple, but being present is one of the best ways to be a good neighbor. Be present in the neighborhood by spending time on your front porch or going for a walk in the neighborhood if you are able.
Have your eyes open for ways to be present with your neighbors.
2. Listen to the Community
Listening is a great way to be a good neighbor. When we are willing to sit with and listen without judgment to those around us (in the good times and the bad), we are being good neighbors.
“People need to know that there’s somebody that they can call upon that will be there to sit with them, no matter what it is…” – Charles Cheek
3. Share What You Have
Being a good neighbor doesn’t need to be complicated. You have resources, skills, and talents that can be shared with others. Whether that’s sharing an encouraging word with a neighbor, helping them do some yard work, volunteering at a local school, or something else–you have something to share.
Here are some ways that practitioners just like you are being good neighbors in their own neighborhoods.
Mark your calendars! National Good Neighbor Day is on September 28th!
