Washington, D.C. — In response to a federal court decision blocking the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians, the Christian Community Development Association, National Latino Evangelical Coalition, UNDIVIDED, and World Relief issued the following joint statement:
“As Christian leaders committed to the authority of Scripture, the rule of law, and the God-given dignity of every human life, we welcome the court’s decision to block the abrupt termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians. This ruling provides needed, immediate stability for families who would otherwise face sudden uncertainty and fear. At the same time, court intervention should not be the final safeguard for human dignity. Congress and the administration must now act to provide lawful, long-term clarity for Haitian families who cannot safely return home.
“Our organizations have long affirmed that a nation has both the right and responsibility to enforce its laws and protect public safety. We reject lawlessness, violence, and disorder, and we honor law enforcement officers who serve with integrity and restraint. Scripture also makes clear that justice must be exercised with moral responsibility.
“For generations, the evangelical Church in the United States has maintained deep ties to Haiti—praying for its people, supporting churches and humanitarian efforts, and walking alongside Haitians through natural disasters, political violence, and instability. Because of that history, Haitian immigrants are not strangers in our churches or communities. They are pastors, caregivers, workers, parents, neighbors, and small-business owners who have sought refuge from extraordinary hardship that remains unresolved today. This history informs how we understand the stakes of the moment and the responsibility of public leaders to respond wisely.
“We therefore call on federal leaders to uphold due process, and pursue lawful, humane solutions that protect public safety while keeping families together. We urge the administration to respect the court’s ruling and we call on Congress to enact permanent legislative solutions that provide stability and reflect the common good.
“The Church’s role is not partisan, but pastoral and moral. We will continue to affirm the rule of law while insisting that it be administered in ways consistent with biblical justice, neighbor-love, and responsible public leadership.”
