Description
Economically marginalized communities need workforce development, clean industry, and green jobs. We will introduce participants to CHERP Solar as an example of community development utilizing new green technology. It is creating a replicable, non-profit, solar panel assembly factory that is uniting physicists, economists, city hall, local businesses, and hundreds of local volunteers, to bring back middle-class manufacturing jobs, cut green-house gasses, and provide cheaper electricity to low and moderate income (LMI) households. The first factories in the LA area will lead to a national network, all locally-owned by nonprofit organizations. We welcome others who can introduce other models and experiences related to these topics. (Please email the presenters if you’d like to highlight your organization.) We hope to network those of us who share these interests. Speakers: Dr. Mark Lau Branson, Dr. Michael Mata
