The vision of the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) is to see wholistically restored communities with Christians fully engaged in the process of transformation. We believe that God wants to restore us not only to a right relationship with Himself but also emotionally, economically, socially and physically. With the rise in heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, access to health care is more important than ever. In 2010 in the United States, 26,100 people between the ages of 25 and 64 died prematurely due to a lack of health coverage. Sadly, more than 7 million Americans are not accessing the health benefits available to them as 65% of children without insurance are actually eligible for Medicaid or CHIP but have not enrolled.
One of the ways CCDA is carrying out our vision of seeing under-resourced communities restored, is in our work with Urban Strategies and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to equip faith-based organizations with the knowledge and understanding that will help you help children and their families throughout our country.
We know that for many vulnerable Americans, faith-based organizations like yours are the ONLY trusted source of information. Given this “trust factor,” we’ve been part of a training initiative called Community Health Connectors that is designed to equip community and faith-based organizations that are already engaging with the tools and resources to help the most vulnerable navigate through the healthcare system. With the advent of the full implementation of the Affordable Care Act in the coming months, tooling and equipping of our CCDA members is even more critical.
We welcome your input as CCDA continues to explore and develop strategies that will support your work to address the health issues in underserved neighborhoods. In the interim, go to communityhealthconnectors.org for all the latest information on upcoming trainings in California, Texas, and Louisiana.
