Reconciliation Across Social Class

$10.00

Often in the work of reconciliation, we focus on race, but ignore social class. This results in “cheapening” the real work of racial reconciliation. This workshop will explore the following topics: What is social class and class identity? Why is it important to understand class as culture? What is classism? How does classism operate in the church? How does applying the class lens help us better understand topics that often get overlooked in the racial reconciliation conversation, such as White poverty and class differences within and between racial groups? The workshop will conclude by explaining how combining the lenses of race, class and gender can help us work toward more authentic reconciliation.

Andrew grew up in the ‘hood in Kansas City. He co-founded a research group with one of the fathers of the Internet at MIT in the 90’s. He realized his heart was for Christian community development, so he moved into the ‘hood and co-founded TechMission with senior leaders from the CCDA movement in 2000. TechMission served as a strategic partner with CCDA in their technology and conference in the early 2000’s and provided over 500 full-time interns to over 100 CCD ministries. In 2008, TechMission took over the operations of City Vision University, which is an accredited online Christian university with the goal of providing radically affordable education Christians serving at-risk communities.
