Description
The workshop will cover highlights of Lawndale’s housing, economic development, community organizing and co-operative work over the past 35 years. Recent victories including our Reclaiming Communities campaign to build 1000 single family homes for working families and the organizing work that entails will be discussed. Owner’s sworn statements and Sources and Uses budgets will be shared. The “power” organizing principles that we use to challenge entrenched power in our cities will be shared. We will explore what it means in Micah 6:8 to “do justice” in the context of an America that is becoming increasingly polarized and ask how regular people have a chance against market forces that marginalize and divide and conquer. Speaker: Richard Townsell
