Beyond Welcoming the Stranger: Decentering Whiteness in Immigration Ministries –Sandy Ovalle & Karen Gonzalez
How we talk about immigrants can either draw us closer or alienate us as a community. The frameworks we use to platform our ministry campaigns can either leverage or limit the impact for creating a mutually enhancing ministry. For too long, Western Christian approaches to migration ministries have focused on the welcome extended to people coming to a new land. This workshop will examine the pastoral, political, and theological implications of decentering whiteness in the immigration conversation, ministry approaches, and advocacy. Attendees will also construct a theology of mutuality and connectivity around immigration.
