The Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ) is a bold, place-based initiative with the ultimate goal of ending multigenerational poverty using education as the great equalizing lever. NAZ operates as one integrated program across 50 organizational and school partners, with NAZ families and students at the center. Its mission is to prepare all children to graduate from high school ready for college.

Workshop I: NAZ Learning Tour
Facilitator: Sondra Samuels, CEO of NAZ
During the tour participants will learn about: the history and present realities of the Northside—its art, culture, landscape, and development; the challenges and opportunities confronting NAZ families who are largely low-income families of color; and the physical footprint of the Zone and its collaborative Northside partners.
Workshop II: Post-tour discussion
Presenter: Sondra Samuels, CEO of NAZ, Brian Dejewski, Director of Collaboration Development of CCI, Andre Dukes, NAZ Public Engagement and Family Education Leader, and Kenneth Scales, NAZ Connector
During the post-tour discussion participants will learn about and discuss: NAZ as a national Promise Neighborhood model for community change; how the intersection of place, race, and class frames the work of NAZ; and lessons that can be learned by other communities.
Pre-registration for On Location Workshops is required. Purchase a ticket for NAZ here. The $10 fee covers lunch and transportation costs. All ages are welcome at this site; attendance is limited to 50. This site is not handicapped-accessible. Parts of this event will be held outdoors. Come dressed for the weather, rain or shine.
