Description
The Doctrine of Discovery justifies explicit injustices like Indian removal, Manifest Destiny, slavery, and Christian Nationalism. While CCD organizations actively confront these visible evils, the Doctrine also creates a diseased theological imagination that is much harder to identify. In this seminar, Mark Charles and Soong-Chan Rah draw from their foundational book, Unsettling Truths, to expose how this dysfunctional theological imagination silently infects the everyday practices, structural goals, and long-term visions of political parties, churches, and Christian organizations. Attendees will be equipped to identify and confront this subtle theology of empire hiding within their own community development work.
