The Doctrine of Discovery and the Heresy of Christian Empire

$5.00

2019 CCDA National Conference — Dallas Workshop

The Doctrine of Discovery and the Heresy of Christian Empire — Mark Charles

The Doctrine of Discovery is the theological justification behind discovery, Indian removal, the ethnic cleansing of Manifest Destiny, as well as slavery and Jim Crow laws. But how did we get there? How did the church transform Jesus’ message of hope, healing and love into one of a Christian Empire that enacted oppression, practiced exclusion and believed in white supremacy? In this seminar, Mark Charles and Soong-Chan Rah will take content from their upcoming book “Unsettling Truths” and examine the formation of dysfunctional theological imagination to trace the rise of Christendom and the writing of the Doctrine of Discovery.
