Description
The push for data informed decision making can feel overwhelming to teachers, students, administrators, and parents alike. Sometimes, it feels as if the administrative requirements around data collection and reporting get in the way of our primary mission, educating and caring for children. Sunny Sue Chang Jonas teaches us that data should be viewed as an asset in a child’s educational journey. In this lesson, Jonas gives us an introduction to data within the school system and reviews two case studies in which data was used to strengthen parental influence on their child’s education.
Sunny has worked as a teacher and AP/principal in urban and suburban public schools for over 15 years. Studying Sociology and Education at University of Chicago, she later got her MEd and MAT in Teaching and Educational Leadership, as well as fellowships to study emotional intelligences, interdisciplinary curriculum, and women in educational leadership at Yale and Harvard. She is working on her doctorate in Bilingual Education at Northern Illinois University.
