Description
This workshop presents a replicable model developed by Kinship Plot (Charlotte, NC) with a local church (The Grove Presbyterian) to transform underutilized church property into a community food forest, garden, and contemplative gathering space. Starting with five fruit tree guilds, the project now offers an inviting, multi-generational, multi-ethnic, and economically diverse space that strengthens congregational vitality and neighborhood connection. Grounded in permaculture principles—observe before acting, start small, respond to what is life-giving—participants will see how church land can serve as ministry infrastructure, a discipleship pathway, and a welcoming “third space,” where ecological restoration fosters both spiritual and practical renewal.
