In this clip from her 2014 National Conference sermon, Amy Williams reminds Christians to think soberly about their position in the work of Christian community development. As Christian community developers, we acknowledge that we are joining in work that God started before our arrival and that God will continue after our departure. As a result, we reject the tendency to see people as personal projects and we honor the privilege of entering into community with those in our local neighborhood.
Amy frames the work of creating social and relational impact through the following three questions:
- How do you see God?
- How do you see people?
- How do you see yourself?
Until we understand the answers to these three questions, we will not be able to witness lasting social and relational impact in our neighborhood.
