Description
People are disconnected from place now more than ever, with an “epidemic of loneliness,” hyper-polarization, widespread displacement, and fragmented lives. This workshop untangles the drivers of placelessness such as sacred conquest, racialized displacement, globalization, suburbanization, and an other-worldly Christianity. A Practical Theology of Place synthesized from a wide-ranging set of theologians and thinkers is discussed, with examples of churches putting the Seven Principles of Place into action. Attendees will understand the drivers of placelessness, be able to articulate a biblical theology of place, and be inspired and motivated to develop, lead, and encourage place-based efforts within their own faith communities.
