Description
In communities all over the country, ICE is currently breaking down doors, using previously private data to identify immigrants, detaining immigrants and refugees in dangerous conditions, and sending detainees to third countries in severe human rights crisis. The Bible commands us to treat immigrants as we would Jesus. How do we love our immigrant neighbors as intelligently and effectively as possible at this historic moment? Leaders from Los Angeles and Minneapolis will share the best practices that have evolved in their context, and our facilitator will add a national overview. We will then open up the conversation for attendees’ experiences in their contexts. We will not be giving a justification for accompanying and defending immigrants or an overview of the current immigration crisis; we will focus on the challenges that we face and the best techniques and strategies that we have found for meeting and overcoming those challenges. The workshop is designed for participants who are encountering the crisis but do not have sufficient experience or expertise to know what to do. It will also be a good space for dialogue for those who have been doing the work for some time and would like to exchange best practices.
