The Collegium Café is employed by the Center for Sharing, while serving the Tierra Vida Community alongside the Jubilee Foundation Team. Jubilee is people-centered and place-based. Community happens when people feel safe, known and loved, are connected to each other, and care for the place they live.
The Trust seeks to fill the Café Food Program Manager position who will provide excellent customer service to Café patrons. This position will be on the floor, planning and cooking daily specials. The Café Food Program Manager will report directly to the co-director and oversee the Barista/Cook position. This is a full-time position with work hours 6:00AM – 3:00PM. Occasional late evenings and weekend work hours depending on Café needs.
Strategic Competencies include:
- Cleanliness: Keeping the kitchen clean is vital to maintain health and safety standards.
- Food Preparation: Reading recipes and utilizing basic techniques of measuring, weighing food, and converting a recipe into larger or smaller batches is essential in cooking. Cooking techniques include braising, baking, roasting, grilling, poaching, pan roasting, stewing, sauteing, and frying.
- Safety: Food safety includes refrigerating, heating and cooling foods to the proper temperature for café and catering events. Clean and sanitize after preparing raw meat to take steps to avoid cross-contamination as well as produce washing.
- Consistency: Cooking techniques, packaging and ingredients used must demonstrate consistency and ensure that measures are in place to maintain a steady output of consistency.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Uphold the quality of service in a positive, cheerful and welcoming manner to ensure all customers and visitors enjoy their experience
- Plan daily specials
- Coordinate with vendor and order supplies, such as food items, paper goods, coffee roasting, etc.
- Clean, cut, prepare, and cook food to a safe temperature, while following special dietary and nutritional requirement needs
- Maintain adequate record keeping and documentation to ensure compliance with local, state and federal health codes and requirements
- Oversee event catering/pricing/invoicing and coordination of opening/closing the Collegium to support weekday and weekend event rentals.
- Work with leadership to uphold the professionalism and morale of staff and address staff concerns as needed with the co-director.
- Maintain a steady stream of Work Readiness Participants to share and practice servant leadership in our community
- Always maintain a clean and professional appearance
- Support Café and commercial kitchen staff on other duties and tasks, as assigned.
Specific Administrative Duties/Responsibilities
- Model and uphold professionalism and promote positive morale of staff by embracing and utilizing their strengths
- Supervise staff (approve timecards) and perform employee evaluations
- Maintain daily deposit book and provide deposits to Accounting and ensure adequate cash is on hand
- Work with Accounting to maintain point of sale (Square) database and ensure pricing and food items are accurate
- Take inventory and record shrink monthly
- Reconcile credit card transactions and match with receipts
- Collaborate with Communications Department on maintaining the Café’s physical and digital menu with current prices in English and Spanish
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must have, or be working towards, a Washington Food Workers’ Card
- Additional certifications is a plus
- Recent restaurant or cafe lead or supervision experience
- Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware.
- Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods of grilling, baking, boiling, etc.
- Leadership/Team Building experience
- Excellent communication skills (oral & written)
- Math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, and percentages)
- Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficiency using Square – Payment Processing, Functionality, Promotions, Reporting
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $46,000– $48,000. Benefits include paid time off and sick leave, medical insurance, and 401k plan (after 90 days of service).
