Each year, up to six individuals are chosen to participate in this unique program, blending entry-level employment with shared life in a vibrant Christian community. Through meaningful work placements at Sojourners’ Washington, D.C., office, participants gain invaluable relational and professional skills, empowering them to create a lasting impact in their future pursuits.
About Sojourners
Sojourners is a media and advocacy organization that works towards social and racial justice, inspiring people of faith through its award-winning magazine, digital media and through its mobilizing initiative, SojoAction.
We embrace diverse Christian traditions, engage with people of various faiths, and those who are spiritual or non-religious, to promote the transformative power of faith for justice and peace.

This fellowship has been going strong for 40 years, and its alumni have gone on to make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond in a wide variety of professions.
Who should apply
Many of our fellows are recent college graduates who are drawn to the opportunity to contribute to Sojourners magazine and or to put their social justice activism into practice with mobilizing and advocacy work. Some applicants are at another point in their career and are looking for a chance to explore new possibilities.

The program is open to anyone 21 years or older who has work permission in the United States and a Social Security number.
Work life and professional development
During the weekdays, participants immerse themselves in hands-on roles at Sojourners’ Washington, D.C., offices, gaining practical experience and insight into the nonprofit sector’s challenges and rewards. Each fellow works in a structured position designed to build both relational and professional skills, preparing them for a variety of future opportunities.
All roles are office-based, requiring at least two days per week on-site at Sojourners’ office. The available positions include:
- Editorial Assistant (magazine)
- Editorial Assistant (online)
- Advancement Assistant
- Circulation and Administrative Assistant
- Mobilizing and Policy Assistant
- Communications and Social Media Assistant
Through seminars and on the job training, fellows will have ample opportunity to explore a variety of career paths. Working at Sojourners will develop transferable skills that will be an asset to any future endeavor.
Community and spiritual life
All fellows who are accepted into the program live together in a shared house, with common meals, house meetings, and group spirituality time. Fellows come from a variety of Christian traditions, so the definition of “Christian” spans multiple denominations, expressions, and backgrounds. As an organization Sojourners periodically holds chapel and offers other opportunities for a shared faith life.
Benefits and Compensation:
Fellows enjoy furnished accommodations and essential amenities in a spacious row house owned by Sojourners. Community living fosters collective experiences and mutual support for young adults as they navigate the complexities of the working world.
All housing and living expenses are covered for participants in the program, including:
- All living expenses (food, local transportation)
- Housing provided with private bedroom
- Health Insurance
- Monthly stipend $700
- 20 days of vacation, up to 12 days for sick/personal leave, and 12 holidays
- Cell phone reimbursement
- YMCA gym membership
