Honoring the Weaker Parts: Community for People of All Abilities
Presenter: Susan McSwain
In order for communities to be whole, the weaker members of the body must be included. Men and women with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities have been effectively pushed to the margins of our society; they need to be sought out and invited into spaces where their unique contributions are recognized and celebrated. This workshop will increase awareness of the richness of life when people with I/DD are welcomed and embraced, and strategies for how individuals and churches can work together to create opportunities for those who are typically overlooked to experience belonging and kinship will be explored.
About Reality Ministries:
Reality Ministries creates opportunities for teens and adults with and without developmental disabilities to experience belonging, kinship and the life-changing reality of Christ’s love. Each week more than 150 people participate in community and grow in friendship through a variety of enrichment activities and shared adventures, both at the Reality Center and around Durham.
