Mass Incarceration Action Events
CCDA currently sponsors two action events: Locked in Solidarity and Reel Justice, Engaging Mass Incarceration Through Film
Locked in Solidarity (LIS) is our national awareness and advocacy day for mass incarceration. It is held the second Thursday of February. CCDA cities across the country set aside this day to educate the community on the issue of mass incarceration, pray for the church to respond to this need and for systems to change, listen and share stories about the impacts of mass incarceration, and engage our public square to make change.
We invite you to join us this upcoming year to host an LIS site. In joining this national collective effort, we will help support your local efforts with a toolkit with suggested event structure, theological reflections, FACT sheets with information specific to your state and how-to’s for setting up legislative meetings in your district. Engaging social media through #lockedinsolidarity or #LIS16 will network you to the broader conversation for this event. Press releases sent to local media outlets will also enable our internal messaging to engage the public square, where the need for change is highlighted through media outlets.
Reel Justice, Exploring Mass Incarceration Through Film events are an effort to more deeply educate our communities about some of the specifics of mass incarceration. Thanks to the commitment of CCDA practitioners and partners, we have put together the Reel Justice, Exploring Mass Incarceration Through Film event toolkit. We invite cities to participate in this on-going event. If you are interested in hosting an event, please contact CCDA’s Advocacy and Policy Engagement Director, Michelle Warren at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or register to host a Reel Justice Film event.
